SCED's speech at opening ceremony of HK Fan Zone (English only)
**********************************************************

Following is the speech by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, at the opening ceremony of the HK Fan Zone today (March 25):

Brian (President of the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union, Mr Brian Stevenson), Peter (Chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, Mr Peter Lam), Trevor (Chairman of the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union, Mr Trevor Gregory), ladies and gentlemen,

It's my great pleasure to join you for the opening ceremony of the HK Fan Zone at the New Central Harbourfront. This is the same venue where we staged the Wine and Dine Festival last November. This location, with the iconic CBD's skyline as the backdrop and overlooking our famous Victoria Harbour, provides a great place for bringing our visitors and local residents to experience the excitement of the Hong Kong Sevens tournament at the city centre.

I congratulate the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union and the Hong Kong Tourism Board for organising this fun-filled carnival so that our overseas visitors can enjoy the rugby tournament and feel the vibrancy of Hong Kong as Asia's world city. The Tourism Commission has assisted in making the venue available. There is no doubt that the event, which suits everyone including sports fans, families and music lovers, can help Hong Kong strengthen our image as the events capital of Asia.

I am sure this carnival, with delightful live music and entertainment, mouth-watering food and beverages, and most importantly, the live broadcast of the exciting Hong Kong Sevens this weekend, will bring a memorable and festive week for everyone to enjoy.

Finally, I wish the HK Fan Zone a great success and all of you a memorable evening. Thank you.
