The following is issued on behalf of the Housing Authority:

The biennial Estate Management Advisory Committees (EMACs) Seminar was held today (March 22) with about 700 EMAC representatives from different public housing estates attended to exchange views on estate management matters.

The Chairman of the Hong Kong Housing Authority (HA), Professor Anthony Cheung Bing-leung, said at the seminar that the EMACs reflect close collaborations between the estate management and tenants in public housing estates. They have played a key role in improving estate environment and facilities.

The HA introduced the EMAC Scheme in 1995 with an aim to enhance management services to tenants. Representatives from the Mutual Aid Committees and District Council members are invited to advise on estate management and maintenance issues. The Scheme is now operating in more than 140 estates.

At the event, prizes were presented to the winners of the Chinese Couplet Competition for the 60th Anniversary of Public Housing Development in Hong Kong. EMAC members, ex-HA member and ex-Housing Department staff were also invited to review the evolution of estate management in the past 60 years and the role of EMACs.

Attending guests included the Director of Housing, Mr D W Pescod, and the Deputy Director of Housing (Estate Management), Mr Albert Lee.
