"Let's Save 10L Water" Campaign launched today
**********************************************

In support of World Water Day today (March 22), the Water Supplies Department has launched the "Let's Save 10L Water" Campaign to encourage the public to reduce daily water consumption by 10 litres per capita and make the first step forward towards establishing a good habit of conserving water.

The Director of Water Supplies, Mr Enoch Lam, said, "With the increase in population and rapid development of society, global water consumption has kept growing. This, coupled with the impact of climate change, presents mankind with the grave challenge of water shortage. Through this campaign, we wish to cultivate water-saving habits in people's daily lives, thereby developing Hong Kong into a water-saving city and ensuring a sustainable water supply in the long term.

"Through some changes in our daily habits, we can achieve the target of saving 10 litres of water every day. Measures that can be taken include reducing showering time, turning off the tap while taking a wash, washing vegetables and dishes in a sink instead of under a running tap, and using water-saving devices such as water-efficient showerheads and flow controllers."

To take part in the campaign, members of the public can simply log on to the webpage of the "Let's Save 10L Water - Joint Declaration" (www.wsd.gov.hk/save10litres), sign the "Commitment Certificate", and use precious water wisely in daily life with reference to the water saving tips on the webpage. Each participating household is entitled to receive a pair of complimentary flow controllers as a token of encouragement whilst stocks last.

For details of the campaign, please visit the campaign's webpage or call the Water Supplies Department's customer service hotline at 2824 5000.
