The Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing, the Mayor of Malmö, Sweden, Ms Katrin Stjernfeldt Jammeh, and the Chairman of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, Mr Nicholas Brooke, today (March 21) signed the Addendum to the Hong Kong-Malmö Sustainability Charter (the Charter) to acknowledge the formal inclusion of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks (HKSTPC) as a third party in the Charter.

The two cities agreed that with regard to Hong Kong's role under the Charter signed in 2011, the HKSTPC would continue to actively participate and contribute, including giving assistance in co-ordinating the efforts of the Hong Kong parties concerned. Where appropriate, the HKSTPC would also continue to give its active assistance and support to the relevant Swedish parties.

Expressing his gratitude to the Malmö city government and the HKSTPC for their joint efforts in recent years, Mr Wong said that today's signing ceremony marked a new milestone in Malmö-Hong Kong collaboration. He added that the inclusion of the HKSTPC in the Charter would give new momentum and vigour to the Charter's objectives in promoting the sustainable development.

Mr Wong was pleased to see that since the signing of the Charter in 2011, exchange and collaboration between the two cities had unfolded on various environmental fronts with the support of the HKSTPC. He noted that delegations from Malmö and Hong Kong had paid respective visits over the past few years which served as a useful platform for both sides to exchange views and introduce their latest developments in environmental issues, including waste management.
