STH visits Tuen Mun (with photos)
*********************************

The Secretary for Transport and Housing, Professor Anthony Cheung Bing-leung, visited Tuen Mun this afternoon (March 21) to see for himself the operation of the Tuen Mun Road Bus-Bus Interchange (BBI) and exchange views with District Councillors on various issues.

The Tuen Mun Road BBI Kowloon-bound opened in December 2012, while the Tuen Mun-bound one started operation in July 2013. The Transport Department and bus companies have arranged by stages a total of 24 routes (nine short-haul routes and 15 long-haul routes) calling at the BBI since its commissioning, enabling passengers to travel from various sub-areas in Tuen Mun to different districts. At present, there are about 20 000 passenger trips on average using the BBI each day.

The BBI also provides a wide variety of facilities for the convenience of passengers, including an estimated bus arrival time system, electronic panels displaying real-time traffic conditions, a Wi-Fi network, seats and toilets.

During the visit to Tuen Mun, Professor Cheung met with Tuen Mun District Council members to exchange views on various issues. He also toured the Free Methodist Church Tuen Mun Children and Youth Integrated Services Centre to learn more about its services.
