**********************************************************

Hong Kong Customs yesterday (March 16) arrested two outgoing passengers at the Hong Kong International Airport and seized about 3.15 kilogrammes of methamphetamine with a value of about $1.4 million.

Officers of the Customs Drug Investigation Bureau yesterday arrested two passengers who were about to depart for Auckland, New Zealand, at the airport. The drugs were found concealed in the vests of the arrestees.

The two male suspects, aged 63 and 58, both claimed as unemployed,  will be jointly charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug. They will appear at Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Court tomorrow (March 18).

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence and the maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.

Hong Kong Customs will continue to step up anti-narcotics enforcement against transnational drug-trafficking activities so as to prevent drug-trafficking activities through the Hong Kong International Airport.
