Police today (March 16) arrested a 27-year-old man in suspected connection with a murder and arson case in Yuen Long in the small hours of today in which a 53-year-old woman died.
At about 1.15am, Police received a report that a fire broke out at a flat in Long Bin Interim Housing.?
Police sped to the scene. While firemen were fighting the blaze, the 27-year-old man fell from the flat. Sustaining injuries to his limbs, the man was sent to Pok Oi Hospital in conscious state and was later transferred to Tuen Mun Hospital for treatment.
After the fire was put out, Police found the dead body of the man’s 53-year-old mother inside the flat.
Initial investigations revealed that the man attacked his mother with a knife and set ablaze in their residence. He then fled by plunging from the flat. Police found some suspected inflammable liquid and seized two knives at scene.
Police arrested the man for murder and arson. He is being detained pending further enquiries.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted to ascertain the cause of death of the deceased.
Active investigations by the District Crime Squad of Yuen Long District are underway.
