*******************************************************

An exhibition titled "This SlowˇEThat Fast: Animamix Biennale 2013-14" will be held at the City University of Hong Kong (CityU)'s Run Run Shaw Creative Media Centre from tomorrow (March 15) to showcase how contemporary art has responded to the increasingly popular trend of animamix.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the exhibition today (March 14), the Under Secretary for Home Affairs, Ms Florence Hui, said that animation and comics were hugely popular and influential art forms embraced by people around the world. The exhibition provides a wonderful platform for the local artists to show their diverse range of works in this art field.

Other officiating guests at the ceremony included the Chairman of the Council of CityU, Mr Herman Hu; the Dean of the School of Creative Media of CityU, Professor Jeffrey Shaw; and the Head of the Art Promotion Office, Dr Lesley Lau.

The Animamix Biennale has been held in different places in Asia since 2007. This year Hong Kong is participating in the biennale for the first time, complementing related events in Beijing, Daegu (Korea), Kaohsiung (Taiwan), Macau and Shanghai.

Organised by the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre and Oi! in collaboration with CityU, the three-part exhibition will focus on "time" and "speed" to display artworks by 29 participating artists including animation, kinetic sculpture, installation and photography, giving the audience an experience ranging from "this slow" to "that fast".

The first part of the exhibition will feature works by local artists including anothermountainman, Chow Chun-fai, John Choy, Henry Chu, Scott Hessels, Alan Kwan, Kelvin Lee, Ho Sin-tung, Jeffrey Shaw, Sinan Goo, Zoie So, Tamas Waliczky, Albert Yu and Simon Wan. It will run from March 15 to April 12 at the CityU's Run Run Shaw Creative Media Centre.

The other two parts will showcase works by teaching artists and students of CityU's School of Creative Media at the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre and Oi! from March 20 to April 17.

Admission to the exhibition is free. For details of the exhibition, please visit the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre's website at www.lcsd.gov.hk/CE/Museum/APO/en_US/web/apo/va_animamix_biennale_201314.html, or call 2521 3008.
