Guidelines to handle abusive behaviour introduced next Monday
*******************************************************

A set of guidelines has been developed to advise police officers on how to handle abusive behaviour directed at them by members of the public, a spokesman for the Police said today (March 12).

The guidelines, which will be rolled out on March 17 (Monday), aim at standardising police response to such situations and ensuring professional service is delivered at all times, the spokesman said.

ˇ§The guidelines will assist officers in performing their daily constabulary duties such as responding to calls for assistance from the public. They are not applicable to public order events, which are subject to separate procedures.

ˇ§They are promulgated as part of Forceˇ¦s commitment to enhance our professionalism, and at the same time ensure the quality of service remains high and police resources are used efficiently, ˇ¨ he added.

Information on the background and principles adopted in the guidelines as well as how they will be applied is now available at the Police Public Page (www.police.gov.hk).
