Hong Kong emission inventory for 2012 published
***********************************************

The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) today (March 6) published the 2012 Emission Inventory for Hong Kong.

Every year, the EPD compiles an emission inventory for six key air pollutants from different sources including power plants, vessels, motor vehicles, aviation and other fuel combustion sources. The six pollutants are sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), respirable suspended particulates (RSPs or PM10), fine suspended particulates (FSPs or PM2.5), volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and carbon monoxide (CO).

Hong Kong's total emissions in 2012 were 32 700 tonnes of SO2, 115 000 tonnes of NOx, 6 130 tonnes of RSPs, 4 840 tonnes of FSPs, 32 200 tonnes of VOCs and 68 300 tonnes of CO. Emissions of SO2, NOx, RSPs, FSPs, VOCs and CO in 2012 remained more or less the same as those in 2011 with slight variations ranging from -2 per cent to 2 per cent.

Details of the 2012 emission inventory and the 2012 emission report can be found on the EPD website: www.epd.gov.hk/epd/english/environmentinhk/air/data/emission_inve.html .
