The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, today (March 4) expressed his profound sadness at the passing of former member of the Basic Law Drafting Committee and the Preparatory Committee for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), Professor Xu Chongde.
"Professor Xu was a renowned scholar in our country's constitutional studies. I have greatly benefitted from working with Professor Xu for many years on the drafting of the Basic Law and at the Preparatory Committee for the HKSAR. Professor Xu was actively involved in the preparatory work for Hong Kong's return to the Motherland and the establishment of the HKSAR. He has made outstanding contributions to both the country and Hong Kong. On behalf of the HKSAR Government, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to Professor Xu's family," Mr Leung said.
