In response to the procession organised by the Press Coalition Against Violence today (March 2), a spokesman for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government issued the following statement:
"The HKSAR Government is very concerned about the attack on the Chief Operating Officer of MediaNet Resources Limited, Mr Kevin Lau.
The Police are conducting an in-depth and thorough investigation into the case with a view to bringing the culprits to justice as soon as possible.
The Government reiterated that Hong Kong is a law-abiding society. We will not tolerate any violence and strongly condemn this savage act.
The Government attaches great importance to Hong Kong's freedom of the press and freedom of speech. These are major elements in sustaining Hong Kong's status as an international metropolis and continuous development, and the Government will continue to strive to safeguard these vital core values."
