LegCo Panel on Environmental Affairs to depart for Europe to conduct overseas duty visit

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

     The Legislative Council (LegCo) Panel on Environmental Affairs will depart for the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Denmark and Sweden tomorrow (March 2) to begin its seven-day overseas duty visit.

     The purpose of the visit is for Members to study the development of mainstream and emerging waste incineration technologies in Europe over the past decades and obtain first-hand information on the four countries' experience in planning and operating thermal waste treatment facilities and the potential application of different thermal waste treatment technologies in Hong Kong.

     During its stay in Europe, the delegation will visit different thermal waste treatment facilities and meet with government authorities, professional bodies and green groups to exchange views on issues of mutual concern.

     The itinerary of the visit is as follows:

Visit to Afval Energie Bedrijf Waste Fired Power Plant in Amsterdam
Meeting with the Secretary General for the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment

Meeting with the Minister of the Environment of Denmark

     The delegation is led by Ms Cyd Ho, Chairman of the Panel on Environmental Affairs, and comprises eight other members including Mr James To, Mr Wong Ting-kwong, Mr Kenneth Leung, Mr Dennis Kwok, Dr Elizabeth Quat and Dr Lo Wai-kwok (Panel members), as well as Mr Paul Tse and Mr Tang Ka-piu (non-Panel Members).
