The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, met the visiting Minister of the State General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ), Mr Zhi Shuping, at the Chief Executive's Office this afternoon (February 26) to exchange views on issues of mutual concern.
Mr Leung welcomed Mr Zhi on his visit to Hong Kong and thanked AQSIQ for its ongoing support and co-operation in ensuring the safety and stable supply of food and food animals imported from the Mainland.
Mr Leung said that the Mainland is the city's main source of food supply. The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government will maintain the effective co-operation mechanism on inspection and quarantine with the Mainland to safeguard food safety as well as the health condition of food animals.
He also hoped that the two sides would continue to step up co-operation on the prevention and control of avian influenza.
