Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 607 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 60 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

     The operation concluded at 7pm today (February 24) and a total of 282 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black spots on Hong Kong Island.

     A total of 411 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 196 for other traffic offences.

     Nineteen pedestrians and 87 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.  

     Statistics revealed that a total of 263 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island in January 2014, of which 73 cases with pedestrians injured. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 56.2 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
