Police appeal to people intending to hold public event in Mong Kok to comply with the law
**********************************************************

Following the recent public event in Tsim Sha Tsui in which Mainland tourists were verbally abused, some netizens are calling for participation in a similar event to be held in Mong Kok on February 23 in order to disrupt traffic and voice their discontent. Police express concern and appeal to the organisers to contact Police as soon as possible so as to discuss relevant arrangements and facilitate the event to be conducted in a lawful and orderly manner.

Police respect the public's freedoms of expression, speech and assembly. It is the policy of Police to facilitate all peaceful public events while at the same time ensuring public safety and public order. Members of the public should also comply with the laws of Hong Kong and maintain social order when expressing their views.

Police emphasise that no violent acts will be tolerated. Police will take resolute action against any illegal activity and will handle it in a fair and impartial manner irrespective of the backgrounds of the persons concerned.
