GEO launches "HK Landslides" e-book and "Are you in the Picture?" Campaign (with photos)
********************************************************

The Geotechnical Engineering Office (GEO) of the Civil Engineering and Development Department today (February 20) launched the "HK Landslides" e-book, which illustrates the history of landslides in Hong Kong with vivid and user-friendly interfaces. The "Are you in the Picture?" Campaign was launched at the same time to collect stories about the people and incidents in the e-book for the purpose of enriching its content.

Officiating at the e-book launch briefing, the Head of the GEO, Mr Wong Hok-ning, said, "Much of Hong Kong is hilly or mountainous and densely populated. In the face of extreme weather, landslide risks and hazards should not be taken lightly. Through the e-book and the Campaign, we hope to invite the public to revisit the landslides in our history as well as to remind them to stay vigilant of landslide risk at all times and be prepared for uncertainties."

The free "HK Landslides" e-book application is available for download on the Android and iOS platforms on tablet computers. Last year, the GEO published the print version of the book entitled "When Hillsides Collapse - A Century of Landslides in Hong Kong" (Second Edition).

The "Are you in the Picture?" Campaign is looking for stories related to the people and incidents in the e-book. Members of the public are invited to contribute their stories by May 31 via the links in the e-book or the Campaign's website (hkss.cedd.gov.hk/hkss/eng/when_hillsides_collapse.aspx). The information will help enrich the content of the next edition.
