****************************************************

The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, met the visiting Chancellor of the Exchequer of the United Kingdom, Mr George Osborne, at the Chief Executive's Office this morning (February 20) to exchange views on issues of mutual concern.

Mr Leung said that Hong Kong and the United Kingdom enjoy close economic and trade ties. He said he believes that the joint effort made by the Mainland and Hong Kong to achieve basic liberalisation of trade in services of the two places would open up more opportunities for British companies wishing to expand their businesses in the Mainland. He also expressed hope that the two places can strengthen co-operation in the development of offshore Renminbi business.

Mr Leung said he looks forward to maintaining close communication and exchanges on various areas with the United Kingdom.
