Hong Kong Customs seizes cocaine and heroin at airport

     Customs officers yesterday (February 13) seized about 378 grammes of cocaine and 759 grammes of heroin at the Hong Kong International Airport, with a total estimated market value of $1 million. A female passenger was arrested.

     The arrestee, aged 51, was an incoming passenger arriving at Hong Kong from Uganda, via Doha, Qartar. She was suspected to put the drugs in a checked-in suitcase with an aim to evade Customs' detection. She will be charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at the Tuen Mun Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (February 15).

     Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is up to life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
