Kowloon City District Urban Renewal Forum submits Urban Renewal Plan for Kowloon City to Development Bureau
********************************************************

The Kowloon City District Urban Renewal Forum (DURF) today (January 29) submitted the Urban Renewal Plan for Kowloon City to the Secretary for Development, with proposals on areas suitable for redevelopment, rehabilitation and revitalisation in the district as well as on optimising land resources and improving the local environment.

Established in June 2011, the DURF plays an important role in implementing the Urban Renewal Strategy (URS) promulgated in 2011 which adopts a "People First, District-based, Public Participatory" approach to urban renewal. The Urban Renewal Plan for Kowloon City marks the collective effort of the DURF, Kowloon City residents and different sectors of the community and has far-reaching significance.

The Secretary for Development, Mr Paul Chan, thanked the DURF Chairman, Dr Greg Wong, and all DURF members, for their efforts over the past two years in completing the 60-plus page report on the Urban Renewal Plan for Kowloon City. The Government will carefully study the recommendations of Kowloon City DURF and follow-up on the recommendations, where appropriate, in future urban renewal endeavours in Kowloon City.

The Secretary for Development said that, in line with the URS, the urban renewal plan submitted by the DURF is a document that should be made available to the public and different organisations for reference. In addition to the Government, relevant individuals and organisations can make reference to the proposals when implementing the urban renewal plan. He urged all sectors in the community to work together to foster in Kowloon City a community which blends the old with the new and grows in a progressive manner.
