Remand person in custody dies in public hospital

     A remand person in custody who had been sent to a public hospital due to illness earlier from Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre died early this morning (January 28).

     The 51-year-old male remand person in custody had been suffering from chronic diseases before his admission and received constant treatment and follow-up at public hospitals. He was referred to a public hospital on January 20 as his general condition had deteriorated. He was certified dead at 2.39am today.

     The case has been reported to the Police. A death inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.

     The person in custody had been remanded for the offence of possession of dangerous drugs since June 2013.
