"Tidal Flow" to be implemented at Wong Tai Sin Temple

     Crowd safety management measures will be put into force from 5pm on January 30 to 7pm the following day, and daily between 7am and 7pm from February 1 to 10 as well as from February 13 to 15 to facilitate worshippers visiting the temple during the Lunar New Year period.

     In view of worshippers may arrive well before the opening hours of Wong Tai Sin Temple, Police will set up queuing areas at Wong Tai Sin Temple Court, Wong Tai Sin Square, and northern pavement on Lung Cheung Road.

     Should the temple be overcrowded, a ”„one-way tidal flow”¦ system will be carried out and Police officers will direct worshippers to enter the temple in groups. Worshippers are urged to follow the advice given by Police officers and take extra care of their personal belongings as well as their young children and elderly companions and in handling joss stick.

     The following special traffic arrangements will be implemented from 6pm on January 30 to 7pm the following day, and daily between 7am and 7pm from February 1 to 9 as well as from February 13 to 14:

(1) A section of Shatin Pass Road between Lung Cheung Road and Fung Tak Road will be closed to all traffic, except for franchised public light buses, emergency vehicles and vehicles with permits issued by the Commissioner for Transport;

(2) The unnamed road connecting Wong Tai Sin Road and Wong Tai Sin Temple will be closed to all traffic, except for coaches, good vehicles with valid monthly parking ticket, designated vehicles of Sik Sik Yuen and designated vehicles entering and leaving the construction site of Shatin to Central Link; and

(3) All vehicles cannot park or wait at eastbound and westbound Wong Tai Sin Road between Shatin Pass Road and Nga Chuk Street, except for taxi passenger alighting at the temporary taxi drop-off point at westbound Wong Tai Sin Road opposite to Chui Yuen House.

     Actual implementation of the traffic arrangements will be made depending on traffic and crowd conditions in the area. Police will continue to take strict enforcement actions against illegal parking during Lunar New Year period. Any illegally parked vehicles will be towed away without prior notice.
