Special traffic and transport arrangements for Lunar New Year's Eve
*********************************************************

     The Transport Department (TD) today (January 27) reminded the public that special traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented to facilitate the festive activities on Lunar New Year's Eve (January 30).

     The special public transport services to be implemented are as follows:

* Overnight services will be provided for the MTR Island Line, Tsuen Wan Line, Kwun Tong Line, Tseung Kwan O Line, Tung Chung Line, Ma On Shan Line and West Rail Line;
* Overnight services will be provided for the MTR East Rail Line between Hung Hom and Sheung Shui;
* Overnight services for some MTR Light Rail Transit routes will be provided;
* Extended services to 3am on the following day (January 31) will be provided by the tramways; and
* Special services of some franchised bus and minibus routes will be provided.

     "As there will be partial or full road closures and traffic diversions on the affected roads, people are advised to make the best use of public transport services to avoid congestion and unnecessary delay," a department spokesman said.

     "On-site police officers will implement special traffic and transport arrangements in phases according to the prevailing crowd and traffic situations. Motorists should avoid driving to the affected areas. If it is unavoidable, they should exercise tolerance and patience, and take heed of instructions of the Police.

     "Passengers heading for the airport and other cross-boundary checkpoints are reminded to allow more travelling time if they have to pass through the affected areas to avoid any delay."

     Details of the special traffic and transport arrangements for major Lunar New Year events are now available on the TD's website (www.td.gov.hk). The public are advised to stay alert to the latest traffic news on radio and television.
