Hong Kong and Fujian agree to enhance co-operation (with photo/video)
*********************************************************

The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, today (January 23) led a delegation to visit Fujian. He met the Secretary of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee, Mr You Quan, this evening, and both sides agreed to enhance co-operation between Hong Kong and Fujian.

Facing Taiwan, Fujian Province is the core of the Haixi Economic Zone. It has an important strategic position in cross-strait economic and trade co-operation. The economic and trade relations between Hong Kong and Fujian are also very close. The Chief Executive and the leaders of the Fujian Provincial Government agreed that, given the advantages of Fujian regarding Taiwan, in particular the large number of pilot measures for Fujian under the Cross-Strait Economic Co-operation Framework Agreement signed between the Mainland and Taiwan, and the liberalisation measures for Hong Kong under the Mainland and Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement, both sides could enhance co-operation and promote common development among Hong Kong, Fujian and Taiwan.

Hong Kong and Fujian will be respectively led by the Chief Secretary for Administration and the Vice Governor of Fujian Province responsible for commerce and Hong Kong and Macau affairs to identify areas in which co-operation can be enhanced. The Fujian Liaison Unit of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region will be responsible for the follow-up liaison work and work with its counterparts in the Fujian Provincial Government to look into the format and specific contents of co-operation.
