*******************************************

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced today (January 23) that guqin player Cheng Gongliang will not be able to join Dai Xiaolian to perform in the "Nan Lian Garden Music Series: Guqin Recital by Cheng Gongliang and Dai Xiaolian" to be held at 2.30pm and 7.30pm on February 8 (Saturday) at the Xiang Hai Xuan Multi-purpose Hall of Nan Lian Garden, due to a health problem. The recitals will be performed by Dai and her student Lu Xiaozi.

Dai, a renowned guqin performer of the Guangling stylistic school, will play "Long Xiang Cao", "Chang Qing", "Three Variations of Plum Blossoms", "Song of Huaru", "The Crow's Caw at Night", "Paoxiu Luolan - Water" and "Ancient Dance". She will also collaborate with Lu Xiaozi in performing the classic piece "Flowing Water", while Lu will play "The Meditative Melodies".

Born in Shanghai, Dai Xiaolian started learning to play the guqin when she was a teenager, under the tutelage of renowned guqin master Zhang Ziqian. The years of training made her a true exponent of Zhangˇ¦s art. Later, she received coaching from several guqin masters including Wu Jinglue, Yao Bingyan, Wu Wenguang, Gong Yi and Lin Youren. Dai has inherited the rich legacy of traditional qin study and is able to assimilate the merits of the various stylistic schools, which is evident in her virtuosity and technique.

Lu Xiaozi was born in Zhejiang, China. She graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music with a double bachelor's degree in guzheng and guqin. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in guzheng under the supervision of Dai Xiaolian, and receives coaching from Lin Youren and Cheng Gongliang.
