Transcript of remarks by SLW on case of alleged abuse of Indonesian domestic helper
*********************************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, on a case of alleged abuse of an Indonesian domestic helper today (January 19):

Secretary for Labour and Welfare: I just want to update the latest position. Tomorrow, four police officers will fly to Indonesia to interview the affected domestic helper. I have also asked the Labour Department to send two Labour Officers, two female colleagues to join the Police's team to do the visit. Our objective is to talk to the domestic helper to establish the facts. And if there is evidence that there is underpayment of wages or non-payment of wages and other benefits, we will certainly pursue the case. And I stress that we will pursue the case relentlessly to ensure that domestic helpers in Hong Kong are properly protected.
