ACE holds briefing session on its role and functions

The following is issued on behalf of the Secretariat of the Advisory Council on the Environment:

     The Advisory Council on the Environment (ACE) this morning (January 18) held a briefing on its role and functions to enhance understanding among the relevant sectors and stakeholders on the ACE's advisory role to the Government and its operation. Recent initiatives implemented by the ACE to enhance public understanding of its work were also introduced.

     The ACE invited related green groups, professional bodies and representatives from local communities to attend the briefing. During the briefing, the Chairman of the ACE, Professor Paul Lam, briefed participants on the ACE's role and functions in relation to environmental and conservation matters. This was followed by presentations by the Chairpersons of the three subcommittees under the ACE, namely Dr Dorothy Chan of the Environmental Impact Assessment Subcommittee, Professor Chau Kwai-cheong of the Nature Conservation Subcommittee and Professor Jonathan Wong of the Waste Management Subcommittee, on the work of the subcommittees. The speakers also shared with the participants their experience in the work of the ACE and views on environmental protection during a question-and-answer session.
