Contractors fined for violation of safety rules

Two contractors were fined $30,000 and $64,300 respectively at Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts today (January 16) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance, the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations and the Employees' Compensation Ordinance. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.
The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on August 28, 2012 at Austin Road West, Kowloon, in which a scaffolder fell to his death from 60/F to the podium at 6/F of a residential building while he was erecting a truss-out bamboo scaffold at its external wall.
