Grants approved for typhoon victims in the Philippines
******************************************************

The Government has accepted the advice of the Disaster Relief Fund Advisory Committee and approved two grants from the Disaster Relief Fund totalling $4.117 million to two relief agencies for providing relief to typhoon victims in the Philippines.

Announcing the grants today (January 14), a government spokesman said that the Committee hoped the two grants - one of $2.463 million to Habitat for Humanity China and one of $1.654 million to Operation Blessing Hong Kong - would help provide relief to the typhoon victims in the Philippines. The grants are further to six disbursements amounting to $17.475 million made earlier to six relief organisations and take the total value of grants for typhoon victims in the Philippines to $21.592 million.

"To ensure that the money would be used for the designated purposes, the relief agencies would be asked to submit evaluation reports and audited accounts on the use of the grants after the relief projects have been completed," the spokesman said.
