FEHD orders Kwai Chung restaurant to suspend business for three weeks
**********************************************************

The Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene has ordered a restaurant in Kwai Chung to suspend business for 21 days.

The operator repeatedly breached the Food Business Regulation by illegally extending the food business area.

The restaurant, located at shop A11 on the ground floor of Kwai Chung Centre at 100-102 Kwai Hing Road, was ordered to suspend business from today (January 12) to February 1.

"Between June 2011 and last June, a total of six convictions for the breach were recorded against the food establishment," a spokesman for the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department said.

"A total fine of $10,250 was levied by the court and 90 demerit points were registered against the licensee under the department's demerit points system. The contraventions resulted in the cancellation of the licence," the spokesman said.

The licensee lodged an appeal to the Licensing Appeals Board, which decided to suspend the licence for 21 days in place of cancellation of the licence.

The spokesman reminded licensees of food premises to comply with the Food Business Regulation, or their licences could be suspended or cancelled.

Licensed food premises are required to exhibit a sign, at a conspicuous place near the main entrance, indicating that the premises have been licensed. A list of licensed food premises is available on the FEHD's website (www.fehd.gov.hk/english/licensing/licence-type.html).
