Fatal traffic accident in Western District

     Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Western District today (January 2) in which a 77-year-old man died.

     About 12.20pm, a heavy goods vehicle driven by a 61-year-old man was travelling along Pok Fu Lam Road towards Central. When approaching near Queen Mary Hospital, it reportedly knocked down the 77-year-old man who was crossing the road.

     Sustaining serious head injuries, the man was rushed to Queen Mary Hospital in unconscious state where he was certified dead at 12.42pm.

     The driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and is being detained for enquiries.

     Investigations by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Hong Kong Island are underway.
