Hong Kong Customs seizes cannabis resin at airport (with photos)
*********************************************************

Customs officers yesterday (December 31, 2013) seized about 6.8 kilogrammes of cannabis resin, with an estimated market value of $660 000, at the Hong Kong International Airport. Two male passengers were arrested.

The two men were incoming passengers arriving at Hong Kong from Kolkata, India via Bangkok, Thailand. They were suspected to put the drugs in a checked-in suitcase with an aim to evade Customs' detection.

The arrestees, aged 36 and 31, claimed that they were a driver and a businessman respectively. They will be jointly charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at the Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (January 2).

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is up to life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
