Students' gestures trumpet holiday spirit
*****************************************

Practice made for a perfect party for St. Bonaventure Catholic Primary School students and their special guests. To usher in the festive season, the youngsters mastered sign language to trumpet merry messages to hearing impaired seniors.

The 30 older adults could not hear, but could see and feel the students' enthusiasm as they gathered to celebrate.

The school is creating a tradition of inviting people with disabilities to join their festive celebrations. In the past two years, it invited mentally handicapped people and blind people to its gatherings. The school principal hopes the students can appreciate that Christmas is a time to share joy and compassion with people in need in society, to help them develop into upstanding citizens.

A story featuring this get-together appears on news.gov.hk today (December 29) in both text and video format.
