Acclaimed arts critic Chow Fan-fu to share experience in opera appreciation
*********************************************************

The noted arts critic Chow Fan-fu will deliver a lecture series entitled "All about Love in Western Opera: 6S - The Secret Key to the World of Opera Classics" (to be conducted in Cantonese) from January to April.

Chow has devised the "6S" approach on the basis of his many years of opera appreciation experience. Through discussion of nine opera classics on the various aspects of love, Chow's in-depth lectures will share the ways to appreciate and enjoy the great art of the opera.

Opera is a complex, multidisciplinary art form integrating elements of music, literature and poetry (libretto), theatre (dramaturgy and acting), visual arts (stage design, lighting and costume design) and dance. It is not only an art form which is generally regarded as the most august and sublime genre in Western music, but also impresses the listener with music of magnificent beauty and a grandeur that is beyond words.

Chow is widely known in the Mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau and has hosted numerous well-received music lectures. Since 1982, he has been hosting a variety of classical music and cultural programmes on Radio Television Hong Kong's Radio 4. In 2006, Chow was appointed by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) as a member of the Consultative Committee for the West Kowloon Cultural District under the Performing Arts and Tourism sub-groups. In 2011, he was awarded a Medal of Honour by the HKSAR Government for his continued and tireless efforts in the promotion of classical music and the appreciation of the arts. Chow has written several books including "Ten Years of Cultural Life in Macao - Critiques and Reviews" and "Years of Beautiful Music - the Story of Barbara Fei". His book "Music with Love: the 30th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra" was listed as one of the "Ten Best Books of 2005".
