Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra to perform film and video game music in January

     The Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra will perform "The Wonderful World of Film Music", featuring National First Class Conductor Fan Tao, in January. A variety of popular film and video game music pieces will be played, and original animation will also be screened during part of the performance to offer audiences an entertaining audio-visual experience.

     The concert will include a series of film music pieces, such as "Gladiator", "Under the Hawthorn Tree" and the tango work "Por Una Cabeza" from "True Lies". The rest of the programme will include "In the Hall of the Mountain King" from "Peer Gynt Suite", Op. 46, and "Habanera" and "Toreador Song" from "Carmen Suite". A "Film and Video Game Music Suite", arranged by Zheng Xu and including a selection of well-known pieces such as "Superman", "Pirates of the Caribbean", "Super Mario Bros.", "Angry Birds" and "Mission: Impossible", will also be performed.  

     Guest conductor Fan Tao holds the rank of National First Class Conductor in China and has been the Resident Conductor of the National Radio and Film Symphony Orchestra in Beijing since 1995. He graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and studied composition and conducting under the famous conductor and teacher Huang Xiaotong, as well as under renowned conductor and educator Philip Spurgeon in the United States. Fan has been praised for performances characterised by insight, conviction, powerful sound and expansive phrasing. The orchestras and ensembles that Fan has conducted include the Finnish National Broadcasting Orchestra, the Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra in Colombia, the Oberlin Symphony Orchestra in the United States and many other leading orchestras in China and around the world. He often collaborates with internationally recognised soloists. As one of the most recorded conductors, Fan has produced dozens of classical CDs and was awarded as the "Most Outstanding Conductor of the Year" in the Top 10 Hi-Fi Award in China in 2007.

     Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "The Wonderful World of Film Music" will be staged at 8pm on January 24 (Friday) at the Auditorium of Tuen Mun Town Hall and at 8pm on January 25 (Saturday) at the Auditorium of Tsuen Wan Town Hall. Tickets priced at $140, $120 and $100 are now available at URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by telephone credit card booking. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for CSSA recipients are available on a first-come, first-served basis).
