Members of the Legislative Council (LegCo) Panel on Food Safety and Environmental Hygiene visited the New Territories North Animal Management Centre in Sheung Shui today (December 23) to understand the operation of stray animal management by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD).
Members of the Panel received a briefing on the work of Animal Management Division by staff of the AFCD to learn about the handling of stray and abandoned animals as well as arrangement for re-homing and euthanasia. They then toured the facilities at the Animal Management Centre such as quarantine room and observation kennel. Staff of the AFCD also demonstrated the use of the equipment for catching stray animals.
Members participating in the visit included Chairman of the Panel, Dr Helena Wong, Deputy Chairman of the Panel, Mr Steven Ho, Ms Claudia Mo, Mr Chan Chi-chuen (Panel members) and Mr Albert Chan (Non-Panel Member).
