SCS visits Eastern District (with photos)
*****************************************

The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Paul Tang, today (December 16) visited Eastern District to learn more about the overall development of the district and to meet with Eastern District Council members.

Accompanied by the Vice Chairman of the Eastern District Council, Mr Kung Pak-cheung, and the District Officer (Eastern), Ms Anne Teng, Mr Tang first met with Eastern District Council members to better understand the overall development of the district and to exchange views with them on various district issues. After the meeting, Mr Tang visited two district facilities in North Point and Causeway Bay.

Mr Tang first toured a new art space located at Oil Street in North Point, Oi!, and was briefed by the Chief Curator of the Art Promotion Office, Ms Lesley Lau. He noted that Oi! was converted from a Grade 2 historic building, which was built in 1908 and was originally home to the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club. This location now provides a space for the community to experience art and a platform for art practitioners to experiment with their ideas for artistic creation.

Mr Tang then proceeded to the Victoria Park Swimming Pool, a newly opened recreational facility in Causeway Bay. He was briefed by the District Leisure Manager (Eastern), Mr Leung Chi-fai, on the unique design of the new pool complex. The streamlined exterior wall stands alongside the trees in Victoria Park, and the pool complex's extensive tree planting has boosted the level of greenery. The pool also uses a solar heating system to supply warm water so as to save energy. With all-weather facilities of international standard, the new swimming pool is suitable for the general public to enjoy the fun of swimming as well as for hosting international swimming competitions.

Before concluding his visit, Mr Tang expressed his appreciation for the efficient and professional services delivered by colleagues. He also encouraged them to continue to provide high-quality services to the public.
