SED to visit Indonesia

     The Secretary for Education (SED), Mr Eddie Ng Hak-kim, will depart today (December 15) for a duty visit to Indonesia to promote educational co-operation and exchange between Hong Kong and member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

     On December 16, Mr Ng will visit and meet with the management of Universitas Pelita Harapan to discuss co-operation opportunities in tertiary education with Indonesia and to promote Hong Kong as a regional education hub. He will also meet and brief a group of local community leaders from Hong Kong on the latest developments in education and related issues in Hong Kong.

     On December 17, Mr Ng will call on the Indonesian Minister of National Education to exchange views on education policies and co-operation. He will also visit the Regional Centre for Quality Improvement of Teachers and Education Personnel in Language under the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO).

     During his visit to Jakarta, Mr Ng will spare some time to join a cross-country study tour comprising some 100 teachers and students from Po Leung Kuk schools following an invitation from the schools' sponsoring body. He will take part in their exchange activities to give them support and encouragement.

     Officials accompanying Mr Ng in Indonesia will include the Administrative Assistant to SED, Mr Kenneth Cheng, and the Chief Curriculum Development Officer (Personal, Social and Humanities Education), Mr Lee Chi-hung. They will leave Jakarta late in the evening on December 17 and arrive in Hong Kong on the next day.

     During the SED's duty visit, the Under Secretary for Education, Mr Kevin Yeung, will be the Acting SED.
