"Memories we share: Highlights of Archival Records on Government Publicity Materials" (with photos)
******************************************************

The Public Records Office (PRO) of the Government Records Service (GRS) will present an exhibition entitled "Memories we share: Highlights of Archival Records on Government Publicity Materials" at the Exhibition Hall of the Hong Kong Public Records Building, 13 Tsui Ping Road, Kwun Tong, Kowloon. The exhibition will be open to the public from tomorrow (December 16). Admission is free.

Photographs, films (Announcements in the Public Interest), posters and press releases are common publicity materials prepared by the Information Services Department to convey messages and to promote government policies and initiatives. The PRO has preserved a wealth of such archival records. Through the display of about 60 exhibits of government publicity materials and related archival holdings from the 1950s to the 1970s, the exhibition will highlight events such as water rationing and the Festival of Hong Kong as well as iconic characters like Mr Zebra, Miss Ping On and Lap Sap Chung.

In addition, the exhibition will display valuable and interesting items including a water ration card, posters relating to water rationing, documents relating to the feasibility study of rain making, posters and photographs of the Festival of Hong Kong, the Parade Route for the Festival, and posters and photographs relating to Miss Ping On, Lap Sap Chung and Mr Zebra.

To enrich the onsite exhibition, an online Reference Resources Page has been developed. It consists of four parts: Introduction, Highlights of Government Publicity Materials, Image Gallery and Reference List. These are useful education resources for those studying or teaching subjects such as liberal studies, history and civic education. People can access the Reference Resources Page through the GRS website (www.grs.gov.hk) easily from tomorrow.

The PRO may arrange guided tours for group visits. For enquiries on reservations for a guided tour or inquiries about the exhibition, please contact the PRO at 2195 7728.
