Village representative by-election to be held this Sunday

     The Home Affairs Department appeals to registered electors to exercise their right to vote in the village representative by-election to be held this Sunday (December 15).

     Fifteen Village Representative vacancies are open in the by-election and 19 valid nominations were received during the nomination period.

     There are two candidates running for the Indigenous Inhabitant Representative post of Chuk Yuen of the Ta Kwu Ling District Rural Committee; two candidates running for the Indigenous Inhabitant Representative post of Sai O of the Sai Kung North Rural Committee; three candidates running for the Resident Representative post of Mong Tseng Tsuen of the Ping Shan Rural Committee; and two candidates running for the Resident Representative post of Pak Kong of the Sai Kung Rural Committee. Polling will be held for the villages.

     Ten candidates were returned uncontested in their villages to be the Indigenous Inhabitant Representatives of Tai Po, Mok Ka, Ha Kwai Chung, Kau Tam Tso and Hang Hau; and Resident Representatives of Leung Uk, Fu Tei Pai, Main Street (West), Tin Ha Wan and Wing Lung Wai. No valid nomination was received for Sham Shek.

     Polling will be held from noon to 7pm on December 15. Electors are required to bring their identity documents to the designated polling station as specified in the polling notice.

     There will be arrangements to facilitate remanded persons and detainees who are registered electors to cast their votes in the by-election.

     Arrangements will be made for electors who are remanded or detained by law enforcement agencies (other than the Correctional Services Department) to cast their votes at the dedicated polling station located at Mei Tin Community Hall, 9 Mei Mun Lane, Tai Wai, Sha Tin, New Territories. The polling hours are from noon to 7pm.

     If necessary, reserved dedicated polling stations will also be set up in the 22 penal institutions for electors under the custody of the Correctional Services Department to cast their votes from 1pm to 4pm.
