Fish stall closure order lifted at Lai Wan Market in Sham Shui Po
**********************************************************

The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department today (December 9) lifted the closure order imposed earlier on a fish stall at Lai Wan Market, Sham Shui Po.

A department spokesman said, "The fish stall was closed on November 19 following detection of Vibrio cholerae O1 El Tor serotype Inaba in a water sample collected from its fish tank.

"The fish stall operator took remedial measures afterwards, including thorough cleaning and disinfection of the stall area as well as replacing the filtration and disinfection systems of its fish tank."

FEHD staff have been closely monitoring the hygiene conditions of the fish stall concerned after the closure order had been imposed, the spokesman said. Follow-up fish tank water samples have also been taken from the stall. During the latest inspection, the hygiene conditions of the fish stall were found to be satisfactory. Together with the satisfactory test result of a recently collected fish tank water sample, it was considered that there was no longer an immediate health hazard on the premises and the stall was allowed to resume operation starting from today.

FEHD staff have reminded the operator again that good personal, environmental and food hygiene must be observed while handling food.
