LegCo kicks off Our Legislative Council - Then and Now special programme (with photos)

     The Legislative Council (LegCo) held a launch ceremony today (December 5) to kick off the special programme on the theme of "Our Legislative Council - Then and Now" (the Programme), which includes a thematic exhibition of a timeline showing the evolution of the composition and functions of LegCo as well as a display of valuable archival holdings of the Legislature; special guided educational tours and the launch of a series of special stamp products.

     Officiating at the launch ceremony, the President of LegCo, Mr Jasper Tsang, said that the Hong Kong Legislature has walked into its 170th year of history this year since its establishment in 1843, and its composition and functions have undergone great changes over the past 170 years. Mr Tsang hoped that, through the Programme, members of the public would have an opportunity to revisit the historical development of the Legislature and have a better understanding of the work of LegCo.

     Mr Tsang was joined by  the Chairman of the House Committee, Mr Andrew Leung, and the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee, Mr Ronny Tong, in officiating at the launch ceremony. Other Members attending the ceremony included Mr Lee Cheuk-yan, Mr James To, Ms Emily Lau, Mr Tam Yiu-chung, Dr Joseph Lee, Mr Wong Ting-kwong, Dr Priscilla Leung, Mr Ip Kwok-him, Mr Ng Leung-sing, Mr Steven Ho, Dr Kenneth Chan, Mr Kwok Wai-keung, Mr Sin Chung-kai, Mr Ip Kin-yuen, Mr Martin Liao and Mr Poon Siu-ping.

     After the launch ceremony, Mr Tsang led a group of students to visit the thematic exhibition and introduced the milestones in the development of the Legislature to the students. He also showed some valuable historical items and archival holdings of the Legislature to them.

     To make the event more memorable, the LegCo Secretariat also launched today a series of special stamp products featuring the old and new images of LegCo. Members of the public queued up in the Main Lobby of the LegCo Complex this morning to purchase their favourite stamp products including customised special stamps presentation pack, Maximum cards, postcards and stamp key chain.

     Members of the public are welcome to visit the LegCo Complex during the Programme period, from today to January 28, 2014, to visit the thematic exhibition, join a special guided educational tour and purchase the special stamp products.
