A spokesperson for the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) said today (December 5) that the LCSD Museum Pass allows pass holders to enjoy unlimited admission to the LCSD's seven fee-charging museums. Apart from being able to visit the quality exhibitions organised by these public museums, pass holders are entitled to an array of fringe benefits, including special privileges offered by Ocean Park Hong Kong and Hong Kong Disneyland.
The colourful exhibitions and programmes organised by the LCSD's museums enable the public to enjoy quality leisure activities with learning opportunities. For example, the two current exhibitions "Bruce Lee: Kung FuĦEArtĦELife" and "Legends of the Giant Dinosaurs" are spectacular programmes that should not be missed. Visitors using the Museum Pass can save time that would otherwise be spent purchasing admission tickets and can gain flexibility in making their visit plans.
There are different types of Museum Pass to cater for the needs of different people. Families can apply for the Museum Annual Family Pass priced at only $200, which covers up to four people with kinship. Individuals can apply for either the Museum Annual Individual Pass at $100 or the Museum Half-year Individual Pass at $50. Meanwhile, full-time students, people with disabilities and senior citizens aged 60 or above can enjoy a half-price concessionary offer when applying for the Museum Annual or Half-year Individual Passes. Pass holders can enjoy easy access to the LCSD's museums for viewing various exhibitions.
Among the 14 museums and five art- and heritage-related venues managed by the LCSD, seven major museums levy admission fees. The LCSD Museum Pass allows holders to enjoy unlimited admission to these seven major museums during the period of validity. The seven major museums are the Hong Kong Museum of Art, the Hong Kong Museum of History, the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, the Hong Kong Science Museum, the Hong Kong Space Museum, the Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence and the Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum. The other seven museums as well as five related venues are open to the public free of charge. They are the Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware, the Hong Kong Railway Museum, the Sam Tung Uk Museum, the Sheung Yiu Folk Museum, the Law Uk Folk Museum, the Lei Cheng Uk Han Tomb Museum, the Fireboat Alexander Grantham Exhibition Gallery, Oi!, the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre, the Hong Kong Film Archive, the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre and the Ping Shan Tang Clan Gallery cum Heritage Trail Visitors Centre. Museum Pass holders are entitled to free admission to the permanent exhibitions and most of the thematic exhibitions staged at these museums, except for the programmes in the Stanley Ho Space Theatre of the Hong Kong Space Museum, film programmes in the Hong Kong Film Archive and a few special exhibitions.
By presenting the Museum Pass, holders can enjoy easy access to museums as well as an array of related benefits, such as a 10 per cent discount for cash purchase of selected items at various museum gift shops and a 10 per cent discount for participation in extension activities organised by the LCSD's museums. Furthermore, Museum Annual and Half-year Pass holders can enjoy a 10 per cent discount when purchasing Ocean Park's SmartFun Annual Pass. Also, from now to August 31, 2014, the holders of the LCSD Museum Annual Pass will be able to enjoy discounts of $50, $40 and $30 off published prices for the purchase of adult, child/student and senior Magic Access tickets for Hong Kong Disneyland.
The LCSD's museums are devoted to offering the public inspiring experiences in art, history and science by organising quality exhibitions and activities. Current examples are the "Bruce Lee: Kung FuĦEArtĦELife" exhibition being held at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum and the "Legends of the Giant Dinosaurs" exhibition on show at the Hong Kong Science Museum, which have both become popular mega events. Museum Pass holders can enjoy unlimited free admission to these exhibitions.
Bruce Lee, who grew up in Hong Kong and earned his fame here before becoming known throughout the world, is the pride of Hong Kong. Four decades after his death, Lee's influence continues to cross the boundaries of age, region and culture. Having received tremendous support from local and overseas collectors and various institutions, the five-year "Bruce Lee: Kung FuĦEArtĦELife" exhibition has gathered more than 600 exhibits related to Bruce Lee. They include more than 400 precious Bruce Lee memorabilia items selected from the Bruce Lee Foundation in US and more than 100 items provided by the Hong Kong Film Archive under the LCSD. Through these collections, the exhibition enables visitors to review the life story of the legendary Bruce Lee from different angles and from the perspectives of his profile, his movies, his martial arts and his development as a cultural phenomenon.
The "Legends of the Giant Dinosaurs" exhibition is the largest and best show of its type in terms of quality and content ever held in Hong Kong. The fossils and exhibits on display came from 13 major natural history museums and related institutes in Mainland China and overseas. With a floor area of 2,500 square metres, the exhibition is divided into four sections, namely Fossil Gallery, Multimedia Theatre, Animatronic Dinosaur Zoo and Fossil Excavation Site. The exhibition features more than 190 exhibits, about half of which comprise fossilised dinosaur skeletons, vertebrae and eggs. Other highlights include life-size dinosaur models, robotic dinosaurs and interactive exhibits. Among the many exotic fossils and exhibits on show, the biggest draw is the gigantic Titanosaurus model, representing a creature from a diverse group of dinosaurs that had huge bodies and were among the largest and heaviest creatures to walk the earth. The displays also focus on feathered dinosaurs, which have been the subject of breakthrough findings in recent years. Visitors will also be given the opportunity to view a number of exhibits which have never been shown before. Running until April 9, 2014, the exhibition is one of the highlights of "Vibrant Hong Kong" under the territory-wide "Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign, and is the third exhibition in the 2013 Hong Kong Jockey Club Series.
