A spokesman for the Housing Department (HD) said today (December 4) that following the first confirmed human case of avian influenza A(H7N9) in Hong Kong, the HD has put in place corresponding preventive measures, including stepping up cleaning work at potential hygiene black spots to ensure that its public rental housing estates and markets are maintained in hygienic conditions.
"At the same time, the HD will enhance enforcement actions against hygiene offences and remind residents to maintain good personal hygiene, avoid direct contact with wild birds and wash their hands thoroughly after touching birds or poultry or their droppings," the spokesman said.
The HD will be on full alert and maintain close liaison with all departments concerned and take appropriate preventive measures in accordance with the guidelines developed by the Centre for Health Protection.
