The Non-official Members of the Executive Council (ExCo) today (December 4) issued the following statement on the Consultation Document on the Methods for Selecting the Chief Executive in 2017 and for Forming the Legislative Council in 2016:
"Non-official Members unanimously welcome the Government's publishing of the Consultation Document on the Methods for Selecting the Chief Executive in 2017 and for Forming the Legislative Council in 2016 today to formally commence the public consultation.
"The election of the Chief Executive (CE) by way of universal suffrage in 2017 will turn an important new page in the history of Hong Kong. The publication of the Consultation Document by the Government today is an important step towards achieving this goal.
"It is the wish of all Members of the Executive Council that all sectors of the community and the public at large will discuss actively and provide views during the consultation period in a peaceful, rational, accommodating and pragmatic manner, with a view to forging a consensus to achieve universal suffrage for the CE election in 2017 and properly handle the work relating to the method for forming the Legislative Council in 2016."
