EPD to hold public briefings on Air Quality Health Index
********************************************************

The Government will launch the Air Quality Health Index on December 30 this year. To facilitate public understanding of this new air pollution information system, the Environmental Protection Department will hold two public briefings to explain the new index in detail, as well as to solicit views from participants on the implementation of the system. Members of the public are invited to attend.

The two briefings, which are identical, will be held on December 9 (Monday) and December 14 (Saturday) from 10am to noon at the Conference Hall, 4/F, HKPC Building, 78 Tat Chee Avenue, Kowloon Tong. Interested parties may sign up for the sessions by phone on 2788 5308 or on the website at u.hkpc.org/AQHI_public .

The Air Quality Health Index is a health risk-based system which will replace the existing Air Pollution Index. It communicates the health effects of air pollution more effectively so as to help members of the public take precautionary measures to protect their health.

The briefing sessions will be conducted in Cantonese with simultaneous interpretation in English.
