LCSD zoo education exhibition to showcase wild animal habitats
******************************************************

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will hold a roving exhibition, "Zoo Education Exhibition 2013", with a theme of wild animal habitats from this Saturday (December 7) to January 19, 2014, at six parks managed by the department. The six parks are the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens (HKZBG), Tai Po Waterfront Park, Tuen Mun Park, Yuen Long Park, Kowloon Park and Hong Kong Park.

The roving exhibition will start at the HKZBG, where it will be held from December 7 to 15. In order to make the event even more appealing, "Meet-the-Zookeepers" sessions and guided tours will take place during the first two days (December 7 and 8) of the exhibition there.

For the "Meet-the-Zookeepers" sessions, zookeepers of the HKZBG will share with visitors their experience in daily primate care and animal conservation. Visitors will also have an opportunity to learn more about the gardens' animals, including Bornean orang-utans, buff-cheeked gibbons, emperor tamarins, golden-headed lion tamarins and pygmy marmosets, as well as black and white ruffed lemurs.

"This is the first activity of its kind organised by the HKZBG," a spokesman for the LCSD said.

Guided tours will also be held in these two days, during which park visitors will be able to tour the HKZBG and see for themselves some 70 mammals, more than 300 birds and over 50 reptiles being kept there.

"Visitors will find plenty to enjoy while taking part in these interactive and fun activities," the spokesman added.

Interested parties should assemble at the information counter of the HKZBG's Education and Exhibition Centre at specified hours. In addition, park visitors will also be able to join talks and take part in stall games on animal knowledge. Souvenirs will be available for distribution. All activities will be free of charge.

As for the zoo education exhibition itself, information panels with lively photos of more than 10 different kinds of sea, sky and land animals and their habitats, including the polar region, deserts, wetlands and caves, will be on show, through which visitors will be able to learn more about the animals and their homes.

"It is hoped that both public interest in animal ecology and public awareness of nature conservation can be enhanced by the exhibition," the spokesman said.

Please refer to the annex for information on the exhibition periods of the six parks and details of the "Meet-the-Zookeepers" sessions and guided tours at the HKZBG. Public enquiries can also be made to the LCSD's Zoo and Horticulture Education Unit at 2723 6080 during office hours.
