Young pianist Aristo Sham to perform in recital in January

     Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Piano Recital by Aristo Sham will be staged in January next year.

     The programme will include Bach's "Partita No. 1 in B Flat Major", Schubert's "4 Impromptus Op. 142" and Chopin's "12 Etudes Op.25".

     Seventeen-year-old Aristo Sham, born in Hong Kong, was first introduced to the piano at the age of 3. He studied piano under the guidance of Professor Cheung Yiu-wa, Miss Shirley Ip and Professor Eleanor Wong. He is now studying at Harrow School in the UK and is under the tutelage of Professor Colin Stone.

     Sham has been awarded in the national and international arenas. He won the First Prize and the Bärenreiter Urtext Prize Special Prize of the 10th Ettlingen International Piano Competition for Young Pianists in Germany in 2006, and was named the Grand Champion of the Hong Kong Young Musician of the Year 2006. He won First Prize in the Gina Bachauer International Junior Piano Competition in the US in 2008 and the First Prize of the Minnesota International e-Piano Junior Competition in the US in 2011. He was also awarded two special prizes, the Schubert Prize and the Variations Prize, in the latter competition.

     Sham has made frequent appearances in concerto performances and recitals. He has given recitals in Hong Kong, the Mainland, Singapore, France, Portugal, the UK and the US. In 2008, he presented a recital in the "Asia on the Edge" series in Singapore, and in 2009 and 2010 he gave recitals at the Miami International Piano Festival in the US. He also performed in the young musicians' concert of the Trasimeno Music Festival in Italy in 2013. Sham has collaborated with the Hong Kong Philharmonic, the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong, the Orchestra at Temple Square of Salt Lake City and the Minnesota Orchestra.

     In addition to being featured in the British TV documentary "The World's Greatest Musical Prodigies" in 2009, Sham was presented the Certificate of Commendation by the Hong Kong Government for his outstanding achievements in international arts and cultural activities in 2006. He was also awarded the 2007 Young Artist Award and the 2008 Hong Kong Outstanding Teens Award, and gained a Fellowship Diploma with distinction in Piano Performance from the Royal Schools of Music in 2011. He has been a Young Steinway Artist since 2012.

     Piano Recital by Aristo Sham will be staged at 8pm on January 2 (Thursday), 2014, at the Theatre of Hong Kong City Hall. Tickets priced at $110 and $160 are now available at all URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by telephone credit card booking. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for full-time students and CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis).
