The Legislative Council (LegCo) will launch a special programme on the theme of "Our Legislative Council - Then and Now" from December 5 to January 28, 2014 to enhance public understanding of the historical development and the work of LegCo.
The kick-off for this special programme will be a launch ceremony to be officiated by President of the LegCo, Mr Jasper Tsang, Chairman of the House Committee, Mr Andrew Leung, and Deputy Chairman of the House Committee, Mr Ronny Tong. The ceremony will be held at 10am on December 5 (Thursday) in the LegCo Complex. Other Members will also attend the ceremony.
A highlight of the programme is a thematic exhibition of a timeline showing the evolution of the composition and functions of the Legislature, and public engagement in LegCo business. The exhibition also displays valuable historical photos and selected archival holdings of the Legislature. Interesting exhibits include the gong that has been placed at the Ante-Chambers in the old LegCo Building and the LegCo Complex, and the LegCo President's chair used from 1985 to 1997.
To tie in with the exhibition, special educational guided tours to present the historical development of the Legislature will be offered during the programme (from December 5 to January 28, 2014).
To make the event more memorable, the LegCo Secretariat has produced a series of uniquely designed philatelic souvenir items for sale exclusively at the LegCo Souvenir Shop located in the LegCo Complex from December 5 (after the launch ceremony) onwards. Owing to the special theme and nature of these souvenir items, and their limited quantities, they make excellent collector's items.
Members of the public are welcome to attend the launch ceremony on December 5, join a special educational guided tour, visit the thematic exhibition, and purchase their favourite philatelic souvenirs.
