************************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The spokesperson for Tuen Mun Hospital gave the following update today (November 28) regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of patients who were confirmed as carriers of Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE) in a medical ward:

In accordance with the prevailing infection control guidelines, the hospital has performed contact tracing and confirmed three more male patients (aged 32 to 80) as carriers of VRE without clinical symptoms. Among the three patients, one has been discharged, while the remaining two are still hospitalised under medical surveillance and isolation, with one in stable condition and the other in critical condition due to his underlying illness.

The hospital will continue the enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation of the ward. The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
